Diablo Team Event

June 19, 2008

Over the weekend of the 14th-15th this month I decided I wanted to do the Diablo Team Event!
At first I wasn’t quite sure of what the turn out was going to be but I thought we might as well go as we had a good shot at winning.
The rules of the race was you had to have 4 people on the team and since the race had very few people we all had to have 2 race runs that count towards your overall time!

Our team which was originally Team Super Awesome but was changed to Team RAD ( Riders About Domination) consisted of Neko Mulally, Sasha Merljak, Chris Heath and Myself.
The race itself wasn’t a huge success as there were only 4 Pro Teams but, it was very laid back race and we all had a ton of fun!

Our Team was very consistent with our times and we ended up winning close to 10 seconds I think? Not really sure.
The rest of the day we ended off with some little competitions of our own… Who could do the coolest whip…. the best “Goon” style… we all ended up on the Alpine trail and with Diablo now sponsored by FreeLap timing systems you can now time yourself on certain trails! Alpine trail was a well known trail fitted out with the timing and the whole track consists of berms after berms after berms… with 2 wall rides.
The track was short with the previous record time I think was a 1:16.. I knew I had this as I had followed Neko down and ended up with a 1:17 without even trying!.. So in the end I had a flying run after I had 4 others race runs where I was cut off by other riders… I ended up with a 1:12… so that was a lot of fun!

Anyways that was the main joy of my day! I hold the record for the fastest time on Alpine now and it will be a little hard to beat…although I know I can go at least 2 seconds faster as the track was very dry and rough plus I had done 5 other race runs and was pretty physically challenged! … so I’m hoping for a 1:09 next time… So ya thats about it…

I will see you guys at Mt Snow!

Cheers

Mt Snow #1

June 6, 2008

Well it was another great weekend of racing!
I woke up at 4AM on Saturday and drove out to get to Mount Snow early so as not to get caught in the rain!… which it poured!
The track was pretty much the same as the previous race last year but now it had been ridden in a bit more, it was wet and a bit muddy and I had an awesome time slipping and sliding the whole way down.
The track I was told is going to be part of the National champs track which is great but its very tiring and for the Nationals I hear its even longer!!…. so I have already started training.
It of course started to down pour nearer to the afternoon and by then I had already packed up and was sitting in the hotel room… pretty great planning if I say so… I went to the spa and sat in the steam room for about an hour… stellar…
Anyways came time to the race Sunday.. the rain was holding off which was great but I was the last one off so I had to expect the track to change a little…. I had waited about 4 hours but time came for my start.
I had a very fast start as I raced down the fast straight away, jumping and charging with no fear in me as I entered the woods I started to get to the point where you go from being tired to anerobic so I started to loose a little focus but I still kept charging and considering that there was a lot of flat root sections you had to power over I was getting a little on the edge. As I was getting close to half way I made a HUGE mistake and actually thought I lost it right there, my front tire hit a bit of soft mud which guided my front tire off the trail right before a long flat root and mud section so I had to get the bike back on the trail and then get my speed back up which was almost impossible as I stumbled around trying with all my energy to get my speed back up but, quickly I got back on track and had a clean and smooth bottom half and as I exited out of the woods I saw that I had caught the rider in front of me which kind of gave me a boost of confidence as he had a minute gap.. I had a long road section to the finish and I thought if I could catch up to him I could draft him and gain some speed up but, I never could.. my legs were done and I was spinning out with my small gearing I entered into the arena and turned out I was the leader!!! So I had WON!! by 2 seconds over fast Pro rider Ben Moody.

I was pretty stoked that even with a major mishap I had pulled it out still.. also that we had one of the best races for Morewood Bikes as we had a rider on every podium just about!! was crazy…

So ya thats it for now I had no pictures unfortunately but there should be some floating around the web?

Cheers..
